Feed Fry While Protecting Water Quality

Rapid growth requires food, but excess food and waste can damage fry more quickly than mild underfeeding.

Use small observable portions

Offer food the fry can consume promptly. Increase frequency before increasing each portion.

Remove waste gently

Use airline tubing, a guarded siphon or careful spot cleaning. Shine a light into the waste container before discarding water to check for fry.

Match replacement water

Condition new water where required and match temperature and chemistry closely, especially in small tanks.

Change water based on evidence

Use test results, feeding level, visible waste and growth—not a universal schedule alone.

Protect the filter

Clean sponges when flow declines, but preserve biological function and avoid simultaneous deep cleaning of all media.
