Protect Eggs and Fry Without Creating New Risks

Protection should solve the actual threat without exposing fish to poor circulation, unstable water or prolonged confinement.

Know who is the predator

Adults, tank mates, snails and even older siblings may eat eggs or fry. Some parents protect offspring; others consume them.

Separate by method

Remove adults from egg-scatterer tanks, provide plant cover for livebearers, or leave proven parental cichlids when the community is safe.

Make every intake fry-safe

Cover power-filter intakes or use a mature sponge filter. Check gaps around dividers and boxes.

Keep visibility

A protected area that cannot be observed or cleaned may accumulate dead eggs and waste.

Avoid overcrowding

Saving every fry is not humane if the grow-out system cannot support them.
