Power Outage and Aquarium Emergency Planning

Breeding rooms often contain several small tanks that can lose temperature and oxygen quickly. A written emergency plan is part of responsible capacity.

List critical loads

Air pumps, heaters and water movement usually matter more than decorative lighting during an outage.

Prepare backups

Battery air pumps, charged power stations, insulated covers and spare airline can buy time. Use every device according to its safety instructions.

Reduce oxygen demand

Pause feeding during a prolonged outage and avoid unnecessary handling. Gently agitate water when safe if aeration is lost.

Protect temperature gradually

Insulate tanks and warm the room rather than adding hot water directly. Avoid rapid swings.

Plan for leaks and heater failure

Keep buckets, towels, spare heaters, a thermometer and a safe temporary container available. Electrical water hazards require adult professional help.
