Why keepers choose this species

Their courtship and egg placement are easy to observe, and eggs can be left with adults or moved depending on predation and fungus risk.

Set up around the fish

Use a mature aquarium with smooth substrate, good oxygenation and clean bottom conditions. Keep them in appropriate social groups rather than isolated pairs.

Spawning and parental behaviour

Condition the group and observe characteristic courtship. Handle eggs gently if moving them and avoid large chemistry differences between tanks.

Fry and grow-out

Provide very small sinking foods and keep the bottom clean without exposing fry to strong siphon force.

Important limit: Confirm the species. The trade name “Cory” covers many fish with different sizes, temperatures and conservation concerns.

Before you start

  • Confirm the exact species or strain and its adult care requirements.
  • Prepare a cycled fry-safe filter and separate grow-out capacity.
  • Arrange appropriate first foods before pairing adults.
  • Record parentage, dates and any uncertain hybrid ancestry.
  • Identify realistic, responsible homes for juveniles.
