Fine cover for livebearers
Dense plants and floating roots give newborn fry temporary refuge. Cover does not solve long-term crowding; a grow-out tank is still needed.
Mops and mesh for egg scatterers
Synthetic mops, marbles or mesh can separate eggs from adults. Materials must be aquarium-safe, clean and free of loops that trap fish.
Surfaces for adhesive eggs
Broad leaves, glass, slate, wood or spawning cones may suit angelfish and other substrate spawners. Keep backup surfaces available if a pair rejects one.
Caves for territorial spawners
Cave size, entrance and placement affect plecos and dwarf cichlids. Provide visual barriers and avoid caves that cannot be inspected or removed safely.
Natural is not automatically safe
Rocks, wood and plants can carry pathogens, pesticides or sharp edges. Source and prepare them appropriately.
